The American Eye Institute was one of the sites for the VISX Hyperopic (farsighted) and Hyperopic-Astigmatism FDA clinical trials at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The VISX laser was the first laser approved for the correction of nearsighted astigmatism and higher amounts of myopia.  This system has been used at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since October of 1990. The results for the correction of farsightedness have been very encouraging and the FDA just approved the correction of farsightedness in early November of 1998.
